Stock Code: P212016953

1869 (OC 8) incoming entire letter (bank statement) from London to The Lord Bishop of Grahamstown, endorsed "Via Devonport", originally franked by GB 1s green, tied by duplex, but forwarded on arrival first to Queenstown and then King Willliam's Town, the internal CGH postage paid by 1868 4d on 6d deep lilac, affixed over the GB 1s and tied by "3" BONC of Grahamstown. Cape-town entry cds (NO 10) on face, with a good range of backstamps, including "CAPE PACKET / DEVONPORT" (OC 9), Grahamstown x2 (NO 14, NO 19) and Queenstown (NO 21). Filing folds and flap fault through opening, still a neat and most unusual forwarded franking, and a rare usage of this CGH provisional surcharge.
