SAMOA 1914 SG113 Used G.R.I. 3s on 3m violet-black, Stock Code: P245001432, Price:£1,200.00
The 1914 Samoa G.R.I. 3 shilling (3s) stamp is a notable issue created during the early stages of World War I when New Zealand forces occupied German Samoa. After the occupation, German colonial stamps were overprinted with "G.R.I." (Georgius Rex Imperator, referring to King George V) and a new value in shillings to reflect the change in currency. The 3s was produced in a limited number. With only 458 issued, this 1914 (3 Sep) G.R.I. 3s with centrally struck APIA cds, is a really fine and handsome example.
ZANZIBAR 1895 SG5m Mint 1a6p sepia overprint on India variety Diaeresis over last a Stock Code: P245000062, Price: £1,500.00
The Zanzibar 1895 SG5m is a rare and intriguing stamp showing the remarkable variety "Diaeresis over last a" resulting from the erroneous use of a German modified "a" instead of the normal letter. Issued in the early period of Zanzibar's postal history, these overprinted stamps were used when Zanzibar did not yet have its own stamps and relied on Indian issues. The existence of such a German letter in the "Zanzibar Gazette" printing office reflects the cosmopolitan character of the town, with English, French, German, Arabic and Gujrati all in regular use. An attractive example of this fascinating and very rare variety of which few are recorded.
