1884 1s Brown "National Telephone Company". Very fine piece of "Call register" bearing three bisected examples all tied by manuscript and violet "NATIONAL TELEPHONE CO. LTD/ DUNDEE" handstamps. These unusual bisected examples were issued in Dundee during a temporary shortage of the 6d value. The National Telephone Company stamps bearing the portrait of Colonal Robert Raynsford Jackson (Chairman of the National Telephone Company) caused considerable offence at the time of issue due to the omission of the portrait of Queen Victoria and were officially withdrawn from use in 1891 at the request of the Post Master-General. Scarce and unusual.
