1806 King's Bench Prison Letter. Very fine entire addressed to Rev. Maurice, British Museum showing a red 'TWO PENNY/POST/St. GEOs FIELDS' handstamp and a black handstruck '2' indicating the postage due. London '8 o'Clock' datestamp on reverse for AU.6.1806. The Kings Bench Prison was primarily for cases of defamation, bankruptcy and other misdemeanours, the writer however appears to be imprisoned for something far more serious possibly even a capital crime - 'any dreadful apprehensions of the future render me unqualified to suit the wretched spot I am doomed to...'. Scarce.
