ST LUCIA 1883 SG35 Forgery

Stock Code: P212021292

1883-86 6d (lilac), the dangerous photo-litho forgery by Sperati, in the form of a composite "die proof" in black on surfaced wove (50x66mm). With Sperati's violet "REPRODUCTION INTERDITE" H/S above, and the pencil signature of the master forger below, while his yellow circular "PHILATELIE D'ART" sunburst logo is printed on the reverse. A rare and fascinating item, being the actual example illustrated on the Frajola website. Not previously handled by us. [The duty cliche was created in August 1953, the keyplate, previously used for the 1s forgery, in May 1943. Note that Sperati's "keyplate" incorporated the country name, whereas of course the original DLR key die had both upper and lower tablets blank.]
